Surreal, in two flavors

Squam was every bit as magical as I had imagined.

It was so glorious, everything felt a little surreal. We breathed deep, and sank into peace, quiet, and the presence of fellow makers. My students were amazing, and the whole weekend was such a lovely island in time.

And then it was back to a totally different extreme. Life got surreal in its frenzy, with the last day of school and all that comes with prepping for a big move and oh my god the movers canceled and let’s hire more and did you get the teacher’s notes and when’s the closing again? and have to pack and have to pack and have to pack and WHERE’S THAT YARN I NEED THAT YARN and oh man the car just died and hey look, another home-all-day-day let’s go to the museum!

(The boys say hi.)

And there’s a little something else going on, too.

And through it all, because I don’t want to kill anyone, there’s been knitting.

So that’s what’s happening here. How about in your neck of the woods?

  1. Have moved many, many times. Best of luck. But you have a gallies! That’s good.

I’m a scientist, and I have a paper to finish and my first major grant to write, which I get to do while my boss is across the country on sabbatical. And I have two undergrads for the summer with no experience and a whole frog colony to maintain after a two week crash course in frog husbandry and mating. But I am knitting my first CustomFit sweater in a gorgeous green Donegal tweed, so I may remain sane.

Love the basketweave trim in the photo.

  2. You have a way with words! Have been through experiences like that myself. Moving is the worst! But then it’s over and you feel great.

  3. Love the fact that you have normal, relatable parts of your life! Craziness affects us all. Today I need to accomplish three quiches, two pies, one speech for our board of Concern Hotline and teach a cooking class. I just started Vignette; perhaps I will maintain!! Carry on

  4. Your boys are so full of life! I see where your boundless energy comes from and I love that you share it all with us. (Knit. Wear. Love. – could that be a galley print? Oooh!!)

  5. You’re bringing on “moving PTSD” in a few of us! It’s exhausting me just to read your post. Glad to see your keeping your sense of humor – and still knitting!

  6. Your hands are more than full and then some! Glad to see you are still smiling and laughing at the absurd frenzied parts and also got to experience Squam. Best moving wishes to you all.
