SSKAL Pattern release: Zinger

Happy Monday, lovely knitters!

I spent the weekend with my Olympics knitting project for the Ravellenic games – I’m on Indigodragonfly’s team, in the sweater event, working on my design for the fall make. wear. love. retreat in her yarn. Are you knitting during the games?

I’ve been having a super fun time so far, and this is my second striped design this year in her yarn — the first is Zinger, which I released on Friday:

Zinger is a perfect summer cardigan with layer-friendly lines and fun stripes. It features a simple double-stripe pattern on the body, and contrasting-color edges on the sleeves and button band – all within a flattering deep-V, short-sleeve silhouette. I fell in love with the bright, summery colors in April at the make. wear. love. west coast marketplace – they leapt into my hands and I started swatching immediately upon returning home.

This silhouette is modeled on one of my favorite store-bought sweaters, a fancier twinset piece I used to wear to work a lot. This version is a better match for my new, at-home career, but preserves the best things about the original – hourglass waist shaping, discreet broken-rib trim, and a deep V neckline. I worked the neck shaping to be fully-fashioned, but you can work yours however you would like. And while as shown, Zinger features short sleeves and your long-sweater-length – the glory of CustomFit is that you can change both of those before creating your pattern if you would like to do so.

(In fact, I’m dreaming of a long-sleeved version for the fall!)

I worked Zinger in my new favorite sweater yarn – the stunning, drapey, gorgeously-soft Indigodragonfly Chameleon Sock. I used the colors “Who Doesn’t Love a Kangaroo?” (orange) and “Tina Turner wants her wig back” (blue) – but the fun of this design is putting your own individual color stamp on the stripes.

The buttons I used for this sample are glass, from the talented artisans at Moving Mud, one of my must-see stops at each year’s New York Sheep and Wool festival.

And with that, a fun new piece for those over-air-conditioned spaces, and a satisfying entry in the #sskal. Have a great week, everyone!
