End of year quick fix: Deep Current Cowl

Happy new year, lovely knitters!

It’s not widely known, but I do occasionally knit things that aren’t sweaters! Sometimes, like all knitters, I get gripped by the need to knit something incredibly soft, quick, and gratifying. This holiday season has been one of those times, for me – a few different sweaters have sat, languishing, while I chased my obsession:

The Deep Current cowl definitely fits the bill: Soft, quick, and satisfying. It’s a quick and luscious project, with an unusual allover cable pattern.

I enjoyed it all the more because it was a “leftovers” project for me, using the yarn I had leftover from knitting Curlew – and a cable that’s a variation on one I worked up for a different design. I’m so pleased with the result: stylish, super-warm, put-it-on-right-now. I hope you agree!

It’s worked in one piece, in the round, in an allover cable pattern with simple ribbed edges.

Shibui Staccatto and Pebble are soft, intensely luxurious yarns, and when held together they make a subtly marled fabric in both texture and color. It’s exquisite and exactly the kind of thing you want to wrap around your neck. I highly recommend them.

If you’re substituting yarn, look for one roughly in the DK range – these two yarns, held together and worked in Stockinette, typically produce a gauge of about 20 sts and 28 rounds to 4’’ (10 cm). You’ll need approximately 530 yards total.

You can purchase the pattern for $5 by clicking here.

Happy new year to you! I’ll be back next week, with my more traditional sweaters on the needles.
